As we have done for many years, before school starts, the staff will be serving pancakes to students for Shrove Tuesday. Students may wear pajamas on Tuesday.
Shrove Tuesday, is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – is a time of fasting, of giving things up. In the old days, there were many foods that practising Christians would not eat during Lent: foods such as meat and fish, fats, eggs, and milky foods. So, Shrove Tuesday was, and is still the last chance to indulge ourselves, and to use up the foods that aren’t allowed in Lent.
